ProQuest Ebook Central
If you're in ProQuest Ebook Central:
Check for download availability: Ebooks will vary in terms of formats and how much you are allowed to download.
Next to the ebook cover, the Availability section explains what your options are.
Here's an example of an ebook without restrictions:
Here's an example of a restricted ebook - it will require additional free software to download it, or have limits on how many pages you can download.
Downloading ebooks without restrictions: Click on the Download Book or Download PDF Chapter options on the main page.
You can also click Read Online and use the Full Download or Chapter Download icons in the main toolbar.
Downloading restricted ebooks: Click on the Download Book or Download PDF Chapter options on the main page.
You may be asked to open the ebook before downloading.
After that, use the Full Download or Chapter Download icons in the main toolbar.
Full Download: Requires Adobe Digital Editions, a free ebook reading software
- Select the type of device you're using and click Continue
- If you don't have Adobe Digital Editions, you will be asked to download it. Open the installer and follow the directions to install the software.
- Back in Ebook Central, select "done with this step" to move on. Click the Download Your Book button.
- Open your ebook file using Adobe Digital Editions
- Downloaded ebooks will stay on your device for up to 14 days, after which the file disappears. You can annotate and add notes using Adobe Digital Editions, but be aware that your notes will not stay applied once the book expires.
Chapter Download: Navigate to the chapter you want to download in the ebook and then select the Chapter Download icon. A PDF of the chapter will be created for download.
EBSCO E-books
If you're in EBSCO Ebooks:
Check availability: Use the PDF or EPUB links to open the ebook in your browser. Look on the left side for details about page limits on downloads, copying, and printing.
Use the Full download option in search results or in the toolbar along the top of the ebook.
Restricted downloads
Some ebooks may not allow downloads, and can only be read online. You can see if this is the case if the ebook details say "restricted" for downloads.
If you can download them, some ebooks may have a time limit for how long you can read them. They may also require a free ebook reading software, Adobe Digital Editions. If that is the case, you'll get a message asking you to confirm that you have ADE installed.
Download Adobe Digital Editions and install the software, then check the required box to continue with the Full Download.
Ebooks without restrictions
Use the Full download option in search results or in the toolbar along the top of the ebook.
You'll get a pop-up with the option to download the entire ebook without restrictions or required software.
JSTOR E-books
If you're in JSTOR:
Download chapter PDFs:
Click on the download chapter link underneath each chapter section. You will often need to download chapter by chapter, as there may not be an option for the entire ebook.
Springer
If you're in Springer ebooks:
Downloading: At the top of the page, there are options to Download book PDF or Download book EPUB. Choose the format you prefer to download the entire ebook.
You can also download individual chapters as PDFs using the icons to the right of each chapter.
